James 3:1-12- Power of the Tongue
Series: James
In this weeks message from Pastor Derek we see that there are few things in this world that have caused more distress than the words of human beings. James highlights just how much power there is in the mouth of man. Words can be both a blessing and a curse. How seriously should we take our words as Christians? In the world of social media, do we exercise the same caution with our words that we do in person?

    James 1:1-11
    Series: James
Pastor Derek begins a new series in the book of James. This book is heralded as one of both theology and practicality. Though this is one of the earliest pieces of the New Testament, James seems to have been written for the modern age. Do you believe what has been revealed about Jesus? In the beginning, James, the earthly brother of the Savior, didn't. He has strong words for that kind of doubt. Do you doubt who Jesus is? How can you have the kind of genuine faith that the brother of Jesus found?

In the final message from the book of Jonah Pastor Derek shows how Jonah's anger is contrasted against God's love, and asks the questions if we like wise wish God's favor only for ourselves? Do we make the mistake of believing that we are somehow more worthy of His grace than others are? Is that grace? Do we actually desire judgement on our enemies? Do we forget we were once enemies of God ourselves?

Sin always causes us to realize that once it's false promises are made apparent, God is the only One who has never let us down. The truth is, doubt in God's grace leaves us totally hopeless.

    Fleeing the Presence (Jonah 1:1-6)
    Series: (All)
This week Pastor Derek begins our series through the book of Jonah. Jonah is one of the most unique stories in the Bible. Jonah, prophet of Israel is not only seen as a literal story, but also one that prefigures Israel's relation to the rest of the ancient world, and at certain points, a foreshadowing of the ultimate salvation found in Christ. Here at the beginning, Jonah finds himself at odds with the mission he's been given. As Jonah foolishly tries to flee God, we are brought face to face with the foolishness of our own attempts to flee when we are asked to be obedient.
