Though Once I was Blind…
Series: MARK
In today's sermon, Pastor Stephen talked about the uniqueness of the miracle mentioned only in the Book of Mark, where Jesus spit in the blind man's eyes and laid his hands on him twice to move this man through a gradual process of beginning to see things vaguely to perfect clarity.  The disciples are also beginning to see things more clearly as to who Jesus is and why he had come.  No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, it is our prayer that you continue to gain greater clarity unto who Jesus is to you.  These events lead to Peter's confession that "Jesus is the Christ".

    Give Me a Sign
    Series: MARK
Have you ever looked into your rearview mirror to see those red and blue lights suddenly begin flashing behind you, only to look down and see that you were exceeding the posted speed limits on the signs?  The signs were there, whether you chose to acknowledge them or not.  Ignoring signs can often lead to dire consequences, and it almost always demands that a price be paid.

It did for the Pharisees who chose to ignore all of the signs Jesus had already performed, as they demanded he give them another sign in the heavens.  They asked Jesus in hopes of tripping him up, but Jesus refused to play their games, as he knew that they had already settled what they believed about him in their hearts.  Jesus knew that another sign wouldn't change that; so he departed from them, and used the opportunity to warn his disciples about the dangers of unbelief.  Listen to today's message to hear about the one who came to be the bridge that we must cross over to move from death to life.

No matter what your preference may be, we all have our favorite TV shows and movies; and more likely than not, we've watched them more than once. In fact, when we watch a re-run, we often pick-up on something that we may have missed the first time or learn something new that gave us a whole new outlook on what was taking place.

In some ways, that's what's taking place in Pastor Stephen's message when Jesus multiplies another meal for the masses--as his disciples looked-on to see their Savior having compassion for the crowd and meeting the needs of those who've spent time with him. Listen to today's message and learn through repetition what's taking place in Jesus' feeding of the 4,000; and then, allow God to use you to pass on the blessings he makes available for others.

    One Persistent Puppy
    Series: MARK
Have you ever cried out in desperation for Jesus to help? Have you ever begged him for mercy, and yet the only thing you heard was silence? How did you respond? Did you just stop praying, shrug your shoulders and say, "Oh, well, it must not be what He wants for me?" Or did you get mad at God when your prayers didn't get answered in the way or in the timing you had hoped for?

In today's teaching, Pastor Stephen tells of a story of a Syrophoenician woman who came to Jesus, threw herself at his feet, and kept on begging him to cast the demon out of her daughter...and Jesus did not answer her a word! Only after his disciples begged him to send her away did he break his silence to call this woman a "dog" as he told her to wait her turn; but her great faith resulted in an immediate miracle and unspeakable joy as Jesus performed a remote control miracle to set her daughter free. We see in this Gentile woman the response our Lord desires from us--to come to him in faith and persistently pray for ourselves and for others so that His glory can be put on display.

    Pointing Out the Evil Within
    Series: MARK
After calling the teachers of the law "hypocrites," Jesus gave them a radical one sentence sermon that sacked the Scribes and the Pharisees, left the crowd confused, and had his disciples longing to learn the meaning of his message in Mark 7:15 when Jesus said, "There is nothing outside a person that by going into him can defile him, but the things that come out of a person are what defile him."  This teaching broke with everything the religious elites and the Jewish people thought they knew about God's commands...but in Christ Jesus...all Old Testament dietary dictums were nullified.  In sum, Jesus pronounced that he was no longer Kosher with Kosher for those who are in Christ.  Just as the disciples of old, we still find ourselves going back to the law--though we have been set free!  Jesus reframed their thinking from external sources of defilement to the fact that we are already defiled because we are spiritually depraved.  What's in us...comes out of us.  Our focus needs to shift to clean hearts, not just clean hands.

    The Heart of the Matter
    Series: MARK
Listen to today's sermon where Jesus clashed with the teachers of the Law--who attempted to follow every letter, and yet missed the spirit of the Law.  These legalists weren't called "holy," but rather they were called "hypocrites" by the One who came to perfectly uphold and fulfill the Law.  The rules and regulations the Scribes and Pharisees added through codifying their Jewish oral tradition--not only burdened the people unnecessarily--but they actually voided the very word of God in the process.  This passage shows clearly that we do not earn God's favor or our salvation because of what we do or don't do, but instead, once we are saved and set free from the Law, we will honor it as a guide to regulate our loving relationship with him.

    A Sinful Situation
    Series: MARK
Why do we put ourselves in sinful situations where nothing good can come from it?  In today's message, Pastor Stephen shares how unforgiveness and nursing a grudge can only lead us deeper in sin...which eventually leads to death.  In addition, when we pursue the passions of our flesh and let pride rule in our lives, we will end up more than sorry.  Listen to today's story about King Herod, his wicked wife Herodias, and the beheading of John the Baptist as it relates to Herod trying to figure out who Jesus was.
